Positive Cosmetic Clinical & Human Studies – Peptide Raw Materials
Summary of published human evaluations for topical cosmetic use only.
The studies listed below examine changes in the appearance of skin (wrinkles, texture, firmness) or laboratory effects relevant to cosmetic formulation. They are provided for informational purposes and do not constitute medical claims.
1. CopperLume – Copper Tripeptide-1 (GHK-Cu)
Key positive clinical study
Badenhorst T. et al. (2016) – Randomised, double-blind, split-face clinical trial.
- 40 women aged 40–65
- 8 weeks, twice-daily application of a GHK-Cu serum in lipid nano-carriers
- Results versus control serum:
– Wrinkle depth reduced by 20.3% (control: 15.3%) → 32.8% greater reduction (p = 0.012)
- Also showed greater wrinkle-volume reduction than a commercial Matrixyl 3000 product
Supporting Reference.
Leyden J. et al. (2002) – 12-week facial cream study in 71 women with photoaged skin. Reported improvements in the appearance of fine lines, skin density, thickness and clarity.
2. AHKLume – AHK-Cu (Scalp use only)
There are currently no published randomised controlled human trials on living scalps for AHK-Cu specifically.
Best available laboratory data
Pyo H.K. et al. (2007) – Archives of Pharmacal Research
Ex-vivo study on isolated human hair follicles and cultured dermal papilla cells. AHK-Cu increased follicle elongation and dermal papilla cell proliferation at nanomolar concentrations. This is the primary published evidence supporting its use as a cosmetic scalp-conditioning ingredient.
No large-scale human clinical trials on hair density or growth have been published to date.
3. HexaSmooth – Acetyl Hexapeptide-8
Key positive studies
Blanes-Mira C. et al. (2002) – International Journal of Cosmetic Science
Cream containing 10% Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 reduced the depth of wrinkles by approximately 30% after 30 days.
Additional evaluations of 10% formulations have reported approximate reductions in wrinkle depth of up to 49% after 4 weeks of daily application. Later clinical studies of multi-ingredient serums containing Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 have shown statistically significant improvements in the appearance of both static and dynamic expression lines, with good tolerability.
4. TriFirm – Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1
5. TetraCalm – Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7
These two peptides are almost always studied together as the combination known commercially as Matrixyl 3000.
Key manufacturer clinical data (Sederma)
- Female panel (commonly cited): After 2 months of twice-daily use, deep wrinkle surface area was reduced by approximately 45%, with improvements in skin tonicity.
- Additional panels (n ≈ 20–45 subjects, 8–12 weeks) have reported reductions in wrinkle depth/area in the range of 18–25% versus baseline or placebo, together with improvements in the appearance of firmness and smoothness.
Website disclaimer suggestion: The studies summarised above are cosmetic clinical evaluations examining changes in the appearance of skin (wrinkles, texture, firmness). They do not constitute medical claims. Results can vary according to formulation, concentration, vehicle and individual skin.
